Report: Nationwide cars of Danica Patrick, Kyle Larson now under scrutiny from NASCAR

NASCAR has taken a closer look at two Turner Scott Motorsports cars used in Saturday's Drive4COPD 400 Nationwide race driven by Kyle Larson and Danica Patrick.

Patrick's car suffered engine trouble and went to the garage early in the race. Larson's car, however, went airborne during a last-lap wreck, throwing debris into the stands and injuring at least 28 fans.

Now, Fox Sports is reporting that NASCAR investigated the chassis of Patrick's No. 34 vehicle, and taking a closer look at what might have happened with Larson's No. 32. A garage source told Fox Sports that the No. 34 Chevy had a modification that involved "squaring off the trailing edge of the frame rails." Such a modification would improve air flow around the rear of the car, potentially cutting time off the car's lap times.

However, the AP is reporting that the No. 34 passed postrace inspection and no problems were found at NASCAR's R&D center, where Patrick's car was taken as a random inspection.

NASCAR is also seeking to determine why Larson's car would have shredded the way it did when it hit the fence during the final wreck. Such an investigation is standard post-wreck procedure.

Of note: the car Patrick drove to an eighth-place finish in the Daytona 500 has nothing to do with this inspection.
